Moira McKenzie is a Melbourne based lawyer specialising in music, entertainment and intellectual property law. Moira founded MML in 2021 to focus exclusively on providing expert legal services for the arts and entertainment industries.

A musician herself, prior to pursuing law Moira completed a Bachelor of Contemporary Music at Southern Cross University in Northern NSW. While completing her studies Moira worked for independent record label/distributor Vitamin Records and for Mullum Music Festival. These work experiences taught her about different aspects of the music industry and informed her passion for working in music.

In 2011 Moira joined boutique law firm Sanicki Lawyers, becoming Senior Associate in 2016. 

Moira has advised some of Australia’s best-known artists, managers, indie labels, producers, venues, promoters, music festivals, ticketing providers, start-ups, fashion and footwear brands, models, game and app developers, print media, visual artists and authors.

Some of the artists that Moira has worked with include The Cat Empire, Alice Ivy, Felivand, Cat & Calmell, CLYPSO, Vanessa Amorosi, Andrew Lambrou, and businesses such as Token Artists/Guesswork Television, Windsor Smith, The Naked Wolfe, Marketing Melodies and Cargo Crew. Moira has also represented participants on TV shows including The Voice, The X Factor and The Block.

Over the years Moira has lectured in music business and copyright law at Collarts, JMC, RMIT & NMIT and has served on the boards of The Push and Music Victoria.

Moira regularly provides pro bono legal advice for the Arts Law Centre of Australia and has received the Arts Law Centre Pro Bono Lawyer of the Year Award six times. She has provided legal assistance to key music industry organisations and has spoken at conferences including MU:CON in Seoul, SXSW in Sydney, BIGSOUND, Face the Music, Changes and WAMFest.
